Color Measurement Software for data analysis in the lab and production QC

Color measurement of solid colors in the lab

smart-lab Color with spectro2guide and color2view

Analysis of color data in the lab for QC of supplied parts or for R&D tasks requires a high degree of flexibility.
Many different products mean that it is often complicated to define a standardized measurement procedure. When developing new products, material properties need to be analyzed with color data and new tolerances need to be developed for new colors.

smart-lab offers you a variety of tools to be flexible:

  • Project management using predefined standards and test series: Data can be measured either in ONLINE mode or transferred from instrument memory.
  • L*a*b* data under different illuminants and color indices analysis can be displayed simultaneously in a data table, scatter graph or trend line.
  • The spectro2guide and color2view family provide fluorescence data which can be analyzed in detail with the “fluorescent slider”.
  • New color tolerance development is made easy by using latest color difference equations for your application: dECMC – dE*94 – dE00

Color measurement of solid colors for production QC

smart-process Color with spectro2guide and color2view

To set-up up a STANDARDIZED global QC management system a routine process control is needed. This includes binding references, a defined measurement procedure and a standardized reporting system that can efficiently analyze large data volumes over a long time.

smart-process offers you a variety of tools for standardization:

  • Production data is saved in a SQL database that can recite locally or on a SQL server with defined access rights for the individual users.
  • To analyze color and gloss data SPC reports are available. The layout can be adjusted, saved and shared globally.
  • Digital standards with binding tolerances can be easily exchanged among the global supply chain for a seamless communication – even between portable and benchtop instrument!
  • Organizers with product schematics can be set-up for a standardized test sequence and clear sample identification.

Multi-angle color and effect measurement in the lab

smart-lab with BYK-mac i

Analysis of color and effect data in the lab for QC of supplied parts or for R&D tasks requires a high degree of flexibility. When developing new products, material properties need to be analyzed with color, sparkle and graininess data and new tolerances need to be developed for new colors.

smart-lab offers you a variety of tools to be flexible:

  • Project management using predefined standards and test series: Data can be measured either in ONLINE mode or transferred from instrument memory.
  • L*a*b* data analysis for 6 angles is displayed simultaneously in a data table, scatter and travel graph or trend line.
  • BYK-mac i also provides sparkle and graininess data to characterize effect finishes under different lighting conditions. The data can be analyzed in a scatter plot.
  • New color tolerance development is made easy by using latest color difference equations for effect coatings: dEDIN6175:2019 – dEComb. And color equations of major automotive makers are also included!

Multi-angle color and effect measurement for production QC

To set-up up a STANDARDIZED global QC management system a routine process control is needed. This includes binding references, a defined measurement procedure and a standardized reporting system that can efficiently analyze large data volumes over a long time.

smart-process offers you a variety of tools for standardization:

  • Production data is saved in a SQL database. Extracts of the database can be easily shared between plants and suppliers. A comparison function allows comparing different check zones, even from multiple databases.
  • Organizers with product schematics can be set-up for a standardized test sequence. Adjacent check zones can be paired as “panel match” giving valuable information about color harmony in an audit.
  • To show flop behavior of the individual check zones, 6-angle color data can be charted in a travel graph – the ideal tool for color harmony reviews.
  • A drill-in function displays the history of the last vehicles and enables to recognize trends early to take counteractions.

Automotive Interior
Interior components are manufactured by different suppliers with different processes and made of various materials. To achieve uniformity grain size, depth and surface reflectivity on hills and valleys need to be objectively controlled.

  • Leather-like algorithm for real and artificial leather
  • Leather-like inverted algorithm for technical grains
  • Fine algorithm for fine textures of eroded plastic parts

Powder Coatings and Structured Paint
Variations in film thickness, but also additives or temperature changes can have an impact on the surface texture of coated samples. For R&D purpose and production QC cell size and perceived roughness can now be objectively analyzed.

  • Coarse Paint algorithm for powder coated parts
  • Fine algorithm for fine structured paint
