With the new topcoat paint line, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hannover reduces 25 000 MW energy and 60 tons of paint material per year. New innovative process and material technologies combined with a high degree of automation made this possible. One major challenge is to maintain color and appearance standards. Therefore, an end-of-line automated measurement cell is installed consisting of two robots equipped each with a BYK-mac i ROBOTIC, a wave-scan ROBOTIC and a JSR PELT sensor. With a cycle time of just several minutes color, waviness and layer thickness are measured. All data is saved and analyzed in the smart-chart software – even with an automatic pass/fail feedback to the conveyer system.
In his color theory, the Swiss painter and Bauhaus teacher Johannes Itten assigned geometric shapes to a specific color. Red seemed static and heavy to him, which led him to choose the square as a symbol. Whereas the color blue is represented by a circle, as Itten saw the continuous movement in this color.
